Q: Is Dyspraxic Creative Coaching a theatre group?

A: Dyspraxic Creative Coaching is a personal development group for Dyspraxics 16+ using Creative methods and Strengths-Based methods promote increased wellbeing and life quality.  It is NOT a theatre group, solely concerned developing performance skills.  It provides professional services where group workshops & one to one coaching sessions may include character and/or scene work aimed at confidence building, and rehearsing life, interpersonal skills, try out new responses to difficult conversations using applied drama and positive psychology methods to find new responses & insights to flourish. You can thus explore you Dyspraxic challenges by showing these problems visually within an improvised or devised scenarios to experiment with to change the outcomes, and develop your skills but NOT to create a "right or perfect performance" for these reasons.

Q: Do I require prior acting experience to attend?

A: No prior acting experience is required and all welcome.

Q: I am not based in Glasgow can I attend?

A: Yes you can as long as you meet the above criteria concerning dyspraxia symptoms and are aware that all sessions operate according to UK time, for any remote sessions.  I do however only offer one to one coachng face to face in Glasgow at this time till restrictions ease, but you can attend all remote services online that are inclusive to different location.

Q: Will I be supported and will my performance be judged?

A: Yes you will be supported throughout but your performances will never be judged by me or other attendess in both group and one to one work coaching.  Services are strictly non-judgemental, supportive and confidential in accordance with the Association for Coaching's ethical standards and ground rules for your comfort and safeguards to help you thrive and connect with others.  You are encouraged to give things a go, as there are NEVER any mistakes nor right or wrong answers.  While we may sometimes evaluate solutions using experimental theatre (e.g by forum theatre derived methods), we will never evaluate your overall performance as you are never being assessed, although be open that some solutions you may try may not always be effective and is such case is no reflection on you as person.   If you have any extra requirements that as facilitator I should be aware of prior to engaging, please let me know and I will accomodate this the best I can.

Q: Is this a therapeutic approach?

A: No this is not a Therapeutic approach nor Mentoring.  My approach is Coaching (not Psychotherapy) focusing overwhelmingly on the present and your future to help dyspraxics with everyday issues you may experience from interpersonal/relationship, communication/conflict management issues, organisation, self-care, motivation, decision making, expand their confidence and comfort zone and more, than for severe clinical issues requiring psychotherapy that focus on your past.  It is strengths-based than problem-based, involving asking thought-provoking questions & Applied Drama to enable you to gain new insights and identify positive resources & ways to use these to improve your future happiness to flourish, than strictly removing problems nor is expert advice given unlike mentoring to empower you.
Coaching can also approach challenges holistically and help with complex issues by exploring how related issues impact on others to find solutions, than exclusively focusing on a specific problem at a one time.  The process is additionally, goal-focused, particularly during one to one session where mutually agreed goals/actions can be set for completion between sessions (typically practical than written) to help you achieve your desired outcome than strictly what occurs during sessions.  Finally coaching is highly person-centred according to your needs and involving exploring your own perspective and that of others for new insights and empowering for the future.

Q: How much do services it cost?

Costs vary according to the type of service, duration or whether these are workshops or one to one coaching sessions.  Please check the revelant sections of this website on personal coaching, workshops and news and updates for further information.

Q: What I can expect during workshops and one to one services?

Although workshops may vary in the content ranging from lighthearted basic improvisation games with imagined/personal scenarios to increase your happiness or use character work to explore your internal challenges, strengths, values, decision..etc the general format is: introductions & ground rules discussion, short talk to provide workshop aims, theme and background, dramatic enactments (of imagined scenarios, personal scenarios or challenges you wish to explores), check out and reflections. After each dramatic enactment, I will ask attendees reflective questions to help them identify new resources and gain new perspectives to improve their future life quality.  When scene work occurs attendees are encouraged to devise or create scenarios themselves under my guidance that are unscripted but have some basic rules to follow, in accordance with agreed ground rules per workshop.  Instructions are clear and concise for your comfort but do not hesitate to let me know if you require any further information for your support.

For one to one sessions I would typical offer an initial 30min introductory session to clarify your aims and desired outcome and explain my approach further & ensure these are coaching issues.  These are entirely confidential and supportive for your needs, but be advised that I will ask common coaching questions for these reasons and clarify your current situation and the reasons you want to make changes.  Follow-on sessions last an hour and clients set the agenda for each session on what they would like to work on and I will support and help you achieve this using a range of coaching tools derived from positive psychology and applied drama to flourish.

Q: Do I require a formal Dyspraxic diagnosis to receive support?

No do you not require a formal Dyspraxic diagnosis given waiting periods than can occur. Thus my coaching services are inclusive to those with a formal Dyspraxic diagnosis and those who suspect they have Dyspraxia to ensure everyone receives support.

Q: I am Dyspraxic can I attend with a parent or friend?

No you cannot attend with a parent or friend, unless under very exemptional circumstances.  As a part of my coaching work (not family therapy) I run separate workshops for Dyspraxics and those of parents .  The reasons for this is to empower you using my coaching skills and experience, by asking the right questions and creative techniques to unearth your resources and encouraging creative thinking in a supportive manner, not advise giving.  While it may be well meant and with positive intent, the presence of friends or family members, may lead to disempowerment and dependence on others expressing what to say, or may lead to resistance/conflict when they occurs when it may not sit right with your own needs and values, and changes are more sustained when individuals come up with ideas themselves based on their resources & motivations.  Feel free contact me to discuss this further with me if you wish.
